The state of Madhya Pradesh (MP) is located in central India and is part of the peninsula plate of India. The state is surrounded by Uttar Pradesh in the north-east, Chhattisgarh in the south-east, Maharashtra in the south, Gujarat in the west and Rajasthan in the north-west. The Narmada Son valley defines its topography.
The state has milestones of various eras of Indian history. Places like Bhimbetka, Adamagarh, Pachmahiri, Raisen, Zahora etc. bear witness to prehistoric times. The history of the dynasty is of Ashoka, Kushan and later Satavahana. After independence, a large number of princely states were reorganized to form the present Madhya Pradesh.
